To make sure you travel around as safely as possible in Paris, the Police Prefecture provides practical advice and useful phone numbers.

YOUR MONEY
• Carry as little cash as you can.
• Carry your money in several places (bags, pockets…)
• Keep the PIN code numbers of your credit cards confidential and note them down in a safe place in the case of loss or theft.

YOUR IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENTS
• In case of loss or theft keep a photocopy of your I.D. to facilitate the reissue.
• Note down the address and phone number of your temporary residence and keep them with you.

YOUR VEHICLE
• Close windows and lock doors, induding the boot.
• Do not leave any valuable items in full view (mobile phone, camera, clothes…)

PUBLIC PLACES AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
• Do not leave your bags and luggage unattended and do not accept any bags or packages from stranger.
• In case of discovery of any suspicious item, do not touch it and immediately approach the police services.
• Keep your mobile phone in a safe place.

ALWAYS IN TOUCH WITH THE POLICE IN EVERY DISTRICT

In every district of the capital city, the Police Prefecture puts various services at the disposal of the general public:

• Central Police Stations and the SARIJ (a division in charge of processing and investigating complaints) open 7 days a week and 24 h a day.
• The local police units (UPQ) open from Monday through Friday, from 9am to 8pm.

These services can provide you with the assistance at any given moment : information, help, assistance to the victims of crime processing complaints…
